Emma Smith is a print and multimedia journalist who covers climate, wildlife, oceans, conservation, and the intersection of health and humans. 

Smith is currently an Editorial Fellow at Sierra Magazine and a graduate student at New York University's Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program (NYU SHERP).

She's written for Sierra Magazine, Mongabay, bioGraphic, Think Global Health, Scienceline, the Oregonian, Long COVID Connection, the Montana Kaimin and developed content on vaccine access and health equity for Generation Justice's social media platforms.

She is a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists, the Society of Environmental Journalists, and the National Association of Science Writers, where she was selected as a 2026 Summer Diversity Fellow. 

She holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Montana School of Journalism (Class of 2021) and a certificate in Digital Marketing and Google Analytics from the University of Oregon.
